Default First time losing a dog

Hello all,

Sorry if I ramble I just need some advice really. My little ten year old Belle died this morning and I'm going crazy wondering what it was that caused it. I've never had a dog die before and I don't really know what to do I've kissed and cuddled her and put her in an a nice wicker picnic basket with a nice blanket and she's in the shed now but I don't know what to do next. I know she can't stay there for very long and I'm upset and trying to find out what I can do she would hate being in the shed I feel so bad about putting her there.

I looked online at the warning signs if a dog is dying and she didn't have any of them. She was her normal self when I put her to bed and when I got up she was awake and looked normal so I let her (and Max my pug) out like I always do first thing in the morning. Then 15 mins later I went outside and she was lying down and had already died I don't get why it happened to my girl why I didn't spot she wasn't well. The only thing is that for a few weeks she has these episodes where she is breathing fast. but not panting or gasping for breath, just fast breathing but I just thought it was because of the warm weather and she would stop it after a little while so I didn't really worry.

I asked my brother what to do with Belle and he said bury her in my garden but the thought of putting her in and covering her over I think would be too upsetting. I called the vet and she said that a company comes every week to pick up their dogs who have passed away but she said that's only for dogs who died at the vets. I'm worried too that the longer I leave it the more unfair on Belle because she might start to smell.
