Extremely Itchy With Severe Allergies Hi everyone. I have a 2 year old Yorkie who has really severe allergies. Her quality of life has become very poor and she is constantly itching herself. Shes seems like she is always in a lot of discomfort and sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to the sounds of her itching herself and crying. This morning she spent half an hour itching herself so aggressively and with so much force that it brought me to tears. She has a lot of hair loss on the sides of her body where she itches herself often. Her skin is also red and appears very irritated.
I've taken her to the vet who suspects that she has an allergy to protein. I've previously fed her Rayne Clinical Nutrition Low Fat Kangaroo-Maint kibble which is a kibble with kangaroo protein. I've heard that this is one of best kinds of protein to feed dogs with allergies since it is such an uncommon protein. We went through an entire bag and she didn't do well on it and was still very itchy. Currently she is eating Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Hydrolyzed Protein for small dogs. Again, she is not doing well on it and still is very itchy. I've fed her cooked salmon before which seems to help with the itchiness. Now I'm wondering if I should search for a low protein salmon based kibble or should try to find a vegetarian kibble?
Can anybody recommend kibble that has worked well for their Yorkie who has protein allergies? Could her allergies possibly be to something other than protein? Any insight or suggestions from somebody who has dealt with a really itchy Yorkie before would be great. |
