Depending upon the drug - and depending upon whether they're considering that the drug trial would provide a differential diagnosis -- I might want to try that first, if it were me...? I'm not sure bc I don't know what all your vet said about the drug trial. But, some drug trials can be diagnostic - and that can provide some valuable info perhaps.
