I would agree the best thing to keep water fresh is to use a clean bowl with fresh filtered or bottled water. Try to wash the bowl every day too. They'll have build up even if you're only filling it with water every day.

Those pet water fountains are big, clumsy, and look like they'd be a hassle to clean. Or maybe I just try to be a minimalist.
