Default Sick Yorkie at Humane Society

I am not sure if anyone is aware of the story but in Poway, California there was a couple who had 170+ yorkies / yorkie mix dogs in their possession. Here is the link:

So I follow a group on Facebook where several have rescued these dogs and provided them with a now safe and loving home. The San Diego Humane Society is where these yorkies are now at and are being put up for adoption.

There is one available now that has grade IV luxating patella's and has had the ear canal ablation done due to his ears being severely infected. I would love to adopt this precious baby but the humane society is making sure whoever adopts him knows that it is mandatory that he have surgery on his patellas and they are quoting the cost at $6000. I understand that he definitely needs this surgery but I live in Georgia and I feel like I can find it done cheaper in my area vs. San Diego.

So my questions are for this awesome group is:

Has anyone else near me had this type of surgery done on their yorkie and how much did it run?

Also, has anyone else had their yorkie's ear canals ablated and can they still hear or are they deaf? The humane society is saying this baby is deaf.

It is completely heartbreaking to see his picture on their website and know that he is in pain. The group I follow check in on him a good bit and said he is on Prozac due to depression as well.

Please give me some insight as I try to talk my husband into taking on this challenge. We are both Registered Nurses with 2 other yorkies. I would love to rescue this baby and show him the love and affection that he so deserves!
