When we were out of the fence playing games and stuff outside I bought a thing that goes in the ground and then a tether is hooked to it. Most people don't get the dog having stomach issues because either they don't have a dog or theirs doesn't have the issues. Most of the people I can think of on the top of my head that are family and family friends don't have dogs with any stomach problems. Penny and Joey have much stronger stomachs and haven't really had issues. Now that said my dad gave the two little ones something that messed up Penny's tummy (which is not easy) and we had a come to god meeting about what they are absolutely not aloud to have.
It's been a problem with each of my last 2 Yorkies - to the point I don't take Tibbe out nearly as much as I did Jilly. Each was/is so darn cute, so small, adorable and charming, people just seemed drawn to them, always trying to buy them or wishing they could, delighted in each's ability to charm and entertain them and seemed to delight in trying to make them happy with whatever they had to hand in the way of food/treats 'payback' or reward, despite my warnings and of course, mostly I took them to visit family/friends/coworkers or had them in for holidays, parties, picnics, neighborhood walks, pet stores, where food/treats are always at hand. Lately not being able to go out nearly as much or entertain at home, the problem is now thankfully gone, Tibbe suffers less, I worry far less, have no late night vet runs and my bank account has been restored!
