I honestly believe that you need to ask your vet if he/she recommends that you should keep it on hand.. All whelpings are different.. I always have it on hand, but I have very rarely had to use it.. I think that there would be a GREATER risk for error when using it on a toy breed dog than a sow.. JMHO.. My vet would not have felt comfortable sending it home with me if I had not used it when I was working as a vet tech.. Sorry probably not what you wanted..
