Hmm..that does sound frustrating.

Not sure if this would help, but do you notice any regular potty times? It might be hard to change as he's already 11 years old. But if you get him to potty on a schedule, you could contain him to a potty pad area at those times (away from the beds) and let him out only after he poops?
