Tramadol is NOT the human equivalent of Trazodone. Tramadol is an opioid narcotic used to treat moderate to severe pain. Tramadol can be addictive or habit-forming, and can have bad side effects.

Trazodone is an antidepressant that is used in lower doses as a sleep aid. It is not a narcotic and is not addictive. It is also used as an anti-anxiety medication in dogs, and has no major side effects.

Our Bella took tramadol briefly following her luxating patella surgery and she did well. We took her off it as soon as her surgical pain subsided. Bella has never had trazodone, but I would consider asking the vet about it if she ever develops anxiety or has to go on a long trip.

I've taken trazodone for sleep. I've never taken tramadol. I would have to have very severe pain before I would ever consider it, and then I would take as little as possible.
