Default "A Dog's purpose" review

"A Dog's purpose" Review
(Semi-spoilers of this & other movies included)

I give this movie 3 out of 5 (ok). It's worth seeing once
if you like dog movies. Just don't go in ready to compare
it to something like Marley & me or Lassie. Just enjoy it
for what it is.

Beware, as in any dog story they will die. But there's
also a lot of mean people.

I do feel the movie was cut way too short. It felt like
there was a missing 2nd act. And a lot of time was spent
on the 1st act - introducing everyone, then there's a
rushed 3rd act.

Some might feel the massive amount of deleted scenes
on the DVD makes up for it. (There are about 15 plus
outtakes.) All special features have subtitles, which I
like.

The opening title logo could have been better. Some
dialogue was iffy or not needed. (Baily only uses nouns,
no adverbs or adjectives.)

Dog catchers are still portrayed as villians, rather than
a person doing a job.

There were some unrealistic events. Others were
unoriginal or predictable.

However, I do like that it was a film from the dog's
point of view. And that he doesn't automatically
understand everything.

One subtle message I liked, was bad people make
dogs ride in the bed of their pick ups. (People who
love them bring them in the cab as any other
family member.)

I also would have liked for them to actually have
used Cyndi Loper's Time After Time in the movie.
After all the hype on the commercials, it felt such
a missing part of it. (IT would have been perfect
over the end credits.)

I don't regret seeing it or buy the DVD. I am just that
way with dog movies, but others may disagree, because
the commercials sold it as an epic dog tale, and it feel
a little short of what I expected.

Picture Marley & Me without him making a mess in the
2nd act. Or The Butterfly Effect where Evan fixes
everything after only 2 or 3 trips back in time. How epic
would The Lake House be if they met after planning their
1st met, rather than face problems?

I do, however, regret not having a big box of tissues nearby.
