he could be missing him. Getting a second one is always a hard thing. I actually got my third because my little 1 year old was really depressed after my aunts dog left after saying for a week and then playing. My girl is 10 years old and just can't keep up with him so he really had fun. I had been seriously thingking about it and an 8 month old pup popped up on fb that the people wanted gone asap and the rest is history. They are best friends.
