Default seems depressed

Hi everyone i am a new user, Sir Willie is my 5 year old male yorkie. He has always been a bit shy, submissive, afraid of other dogs pretty much antisocial really. We have debated on getting another dog and maybe should have done it sooner....we dog sat for someone recently and had a young Havanese for 10 days. this was suppose to help us in this decision. Willie was grouchy with reserved affection. She had a lot of energy. She figured out how to live in Willies world...he did snarl at her and "bicker" but seemed to be ok. This was several weeks ago and wonder if he really misses her. He is alone about 4-6 hours a day but even when we are here he will disappear to his bed, he just likes us here. I wish he could talk really....we don't want him to be lonely. We "give him itchies" a lot and talk to him and hold him, he does have needy moments. I know the heat of the summer can make him tired but feel like he is sad now.....has anyone dealt with a sad yorkie? we just don't know if we should get another dog, would love another yorkie but think it should not be a puppy....thoughts or words of wisdom?
