Retractable leashes have pros and cons. I use them on a daily basis because we live on 4 acres and I don't always trust them off leash and long lines are cumbersome and get tangled etc. So for me they are a GOD SEND for night time potty breaks when they need their space etc but I need to keep them under control. I have a few laying around. I have two 26ft cord ones, I have two 16ft tape leashes (which are a bit safer, IMO).

To me, they're just like any other tool. They can be abused and misused in the wrong hands. I never use a retractable in a public space or anywhere there will be crowds and other people. I've perfected walking 2 dogs on 26ft retractables. Other people are not so intelligent.
