On a chicken-kibble diet he was having some darkening of his skin, which we concluded to be allergies. Once we cut the chicken he has since been fine, clear skin.

I do not believe it to be stress related, as there is no catalyst for stress. We can be lounging on the sofa, and he will be sitting by our feet resting, and just randomly decide he wants to lick his paw. We do not have to say anything to him, we do not have to be looking at him.

It's not even that excess, but he does it from time to time, maybe I'm just thinking it's something when it's not?

He looks exactly like the pup in the middle of your display pic hehe <3.
