The story of coconut is that it was bad. Then it was good. Now it's bad again. I believe that people always knew the bad part (saturated fat is bad for your heart) was bad. It's just that other research showed that the good parts might outweigh the bad. Unfortunately, the studies showing that coconut oil was good were done using artificially refined coconut oil that boosted the MCT (medium chain triglyceride) content. Oh well. Here's a balanced article from webmd that states that a little coconut oil is probably harmless, but not to use it in excess:
