I think you are underestimating the damage that was done to my puppies. We have had them one year on the 20th of this month. At first they were terrified of us and panicked when we tried to get close to them. They are just now, within the past 2 or 3 weeks, letting us pick them up, after a year and a lot of patience. They will obey when we tell them to stop and sit but they cower down reluctantly and let us pick them up. They are still learning to trust us. I am thinking it might be a little easier on your pup since he already knows you and probably remembers you. It will take time to adjust to his new life though, no doubt.
