Just like a rescued dog, it takes time for them to adjust to new surroundings and to rebuild a bond with you. If you love this dog, work in regaining his trust in you and bonding with you and the family. You may find that once happy lil boy is back again. If you feel the change in him is to great and the love you once had for him you cannot regain, then it would be best for both you and this dog to rehome him. I personally feel that working with this baby he will be the dog that he was before you left in someone else's care for 1 1/2 years. Good luck in what ever decision you make.
