Don't give up on the feeding station deal, trust me. We (the shelter where I volunteer) caught an *extremely* messed up/shy dog who we allowed out on a "slumber party" with potential adopters -- she got out of the house and was loose for weeks. We finally located her roaming area and set up a station w/ wet food - we set up the cage at about 6pm - I went to check on the cage at 5am the FIRST day - and there she was, trapped in the cage...safe.
