She could go into heat at any time, so now is the right time to spay. You're right, an accidental pregnancy could kill her. If her baby teeth have not all fallen out yet, she can have them removed at the same time--that will prevent problems down the line.
Our Bella was about that weight at that age, and she gained three more pounds over the next couple of years, so yes, she could still keep growing, but most of her growth is behind her.
