Awwww!

Jackson gets anxiety. It's a double edge sword because he LOVES to travel and he enjoys visiting new places, new people, new dogs, and he's an angel in hotels etc. And he hates being away from me. He basically loves every aspect of traveling except the long car rides. I would find he goes through phases -- when we go faster and it's louder or bumpier, the panting and shaking starts. In every day life, he's used to being in the car as we go to parks a lot and a lot of other errands. So he's usually only nervous for about the first 5 mins and then he's fine.

Anywho I really realized how bad the anxiety was when we drove to Florida in an RV. The RV was very loud and he was miserable the entire driving portions of the trip. Spoke to vet back home and got an RX for xanax however unfortunately it did not help him. This was 2 years ago.

This year we drove to FL again from MD but this time in my Jeep. He's a lot more comfortable in my car but I still wanted to get something for him. Spoke to vet about Trazodone. It *really* helped. It would take the edge off but not so much to sedate him in any way. On our stops and breaks he would be perfectly awake and alert to potty, drink some water, have a snack etc. But it allowed him to go in the backseat and just sleep for longer periods of time without being concerned about what was going on. It was sooo nice to just see him almost breathe a sigh of relief.

Maybe something to consider? I like Trazodone too because it does not have to be given on a daily basis or built up in their system first. You can give as needed 1-2 hours prior to stressful event and you can play around a bit with dosages to get it right with your vets help.

We also used Vetriscience Composure Calming Chews from the vet in conjunction. Do not know if they helped or not honestly.
