This makes me sad for you. Barney gets very anxious on trips. The vet gave him a sedative last summer for our 10 hour car ride. I didn't like it at all. He was still scared but he could barely even stand up to get a drink. On the ride home I gave him a 1 mg melatonin and it did the trick. He was calm and slept off and on. But he was still able to walk around at rest stops. If you decide to use it, ask your vet about dosage and make sure to get the kind that is not flavored---sometimes has sugar alcohol which is dangerous for dogs.
