Could very likely be he's moaning from pain. Dogs don't normally moan. You are not helpless, you have a phone and the only speaking voice your baby has. Call the vet! If it is a spinal condition, the pain can be severe, even after steroids, etc. I'd call my vet and tell him about the moaning sound and ask for pain medication if you don't already have it. Dogs are normally stoic and hide all the pain they can out of instinct but when a dog is uncharacteristic moaning or making verbal sounds, particularly if they coincide with movement of the spine or other body parts or just generally moaning, I'd be very concerned my baby was hurting more than he can deal with and seek relief for him.

If you already have pain medication, call to see if you can increase the dose. I'm so sorry your little one is going through this.

Please read up on AAI and the attendant yelping, moaning, inability to walk that goes with it and other similar symptoms so you can ask intelligent questions as some vets always aren't up to par, not that yours isn't, but I just want you to know enough to speak up for your baby and be certain he's getting the best of diagnostic investigative and treatment plans necessary. I've heard of undiagnosed problems due to vet error. We're praying here for that little one of yours.
