My boy is also 12 pounds and fly's through the air off the deck into the yard. I don't worry as long as he lands on all 4's. He has kangaroo genes in him, he likes to jump straight up into the tress after that pesky squirrel and lands on his hind legs, I discourage this as I fear the weight on his hind legs hitting the deck or the ground will cause damage. I have always had bigger yorkies, 9 to 17 pounders, leaping off things never cause bone issues.
