I just got home a week ago from a 16 hour drive (we stopped at a few rest stops for a quick nap)...and I had two 10 week old puppies. I gave them water in a bowl every few hours and a few licks of Nutrical, but no food. The breeder told me the food might make them car sick...and the Nutrical would keep up their sugar level.
My puppies almost slept the entire way home. We stopped at rest stops and let them potty on the sidewalk. We tried to keep them away from places other dogs may have peed or pooped. They slept in our laps...but most of the trip they snuggled together in the crate. No accidents!
I was shocked at how well they did. I would bring paper towels, plastic bags, towels, crate, Nutrical, bottled water w/ dish. I brought the harness and the leash...but it just scared them. I also brought toys and they weren't really interested until we got home. They were happy to just sleep. We decided not to stop at a hotel because we figured they might just cry and we wouldn't sleep. We figured we wanted to get them home so we only took 2 hour naps twice on the way home.
Good Luck and enjoy your new baby!!!!!
