Walter is a cutie. Yes, puppy coats mat easily. It's too early to predict whether he will be a cotton or a silky coat, but they say that you can tell by the color of camera eye flash. Blue or green eye flash supposedly predicts silky coat, and red eye flash predicts cotton coat. I don't know how true this is, but our Bella had blue eye flash, and she became a silky coat. Unfortunately, Walter's eyes don't have any color flash in your photo. Do you have other photos where you can see the eye flash color?

In Bella's case, we knew for certain after her first grooming at 4 months of age that she would be a silky coat. Here is a thread about her first grooming, with before and after photos at the bottom of the first page of posts: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-grooming.html . The grooming removed the remainder of the puppy coat and exposed the silky adult coat. Silky coats can still mat, but not nearly as much.
