We started with the Thundershirt for Teddy and it helped.
Teddy decided that a comforter and pillow on the couch is his safe place. We bought him his own set.
I'm not sure if the heavy wood arms of our family room couch also help. Something about wood seems to be comforting because he also likes going in the corner of the kitchen cabinets. I've also talked to another YT member who said that her dog is comforted by her wood flooring.
The wood might block static. I've read that is why dogs like our previous Airedale find comfort from lightning/storms by hiding in cast iron bathtubs -- they block static.
