That's a very tricky situation. I adopted an older female 4 years ago. She too became aggressive a few days after moving in. However, it's just me and my husband at home. So, no fears of children being bitten. She is incredibly sweet to my grandbaby, but I still put her up when grandbaby visits.

I have no real advice, other than fearful aggression is very difficult to overcome. You may want to repost in the general forum to see if you can get more advice. Welcome to YT.
