Where do you start?
ytca.org That is the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America
What should I be looking for?
Well reputable breeders can be very hard to find. You want a breeder that registers dogs with the AKC (that is the only reputable registry in the US) You want to see both parents. You want to see where the puppies are being kept. Reputable breeders breed to better the breed so you want someone who breeders only the best examples of the breed. They will not breed a female under 5 pounds and this is a big thing if they breed a female under 5 pounds they are risking the health so that there can tell you they care more about money. Stay away from anyone using the word teacup or micro. I personal am not a fan of breeders who are fine whip shipping the pup in cargo. Also they shouldn't let the pups go before 12 weeks.
Are there warning signs that I'm about to be scammed?
If they ask for the money before hand or by western union.
How do I go about preparing my home for a pup?
Well. Puppy proofing is very important. Picking up and thing they could chew, choke or eat. You will need a play pen to put the pup in when you can not watch them. Baby gates are also good because you can block off certain stuff. You might want to start looking at vets. You might want to buy trash cans with lids if you have shorter trash cans. If something means a lot to you and the puppy can get to it I would put it up.
Are there any books I should be reading?
Yorkshire Terriers for dummies is good.
Roughly how much should I be expecting to pay?
$1,000- $2,500 and that's just for the pup there will be a lot of vet expenses and stuff in the first year.
