'Designer' breeds is just marketing. It's basically targeting a certain group who want designer clothing and handbags, who can/will spend thousands, who could easily replace one sick puppy with another. Or for those who don't know better and think it'd be a fun experience to cross-breed their dogs. They usually end up giving away the puppies to friends/family who don't even want puppies. There are enough dogs in the shelter that won't ever have homes.
