When ever I bought a baby home, I would set it on the floor, my older girl / girls would come to sniff what the momma bought home, once the puppy started to hop around the older one / ones would jump up on the sofa. That is where they stayed. From time to time the older one /ones would come to sniff her, but basically they stayed on the sofa. It took my older girls 6 weeks to 2months before they would stay on the floor and play. I kept the baby gated, away from the older ones when I was not home. I gave my older ones more attention to show them they were still # 1. Always make your older one first. First to be greeted when you come home, first to eat, first one to get a treat. Puppies cannot be introduced to first dog on neutral grounds as puppy has not had any vaccines, they have to be introduced in your home. I don't even advise your yard, there are squirrels, chipmunks, field mice, birds, all have been in your yard which can cause a unvaccinated puppy to become ill.
