Cool Do dogs really understand us humans?

Do you think dogs understand humans?

I know you can teach a dog to sit, stay, come, lay down etc..... but what is it they understand? The words? I know some folks make hand gestures along with words, but I'm not one of those. So for those of us who rely on vocal commands, is it a word association thing? If that's the case, wouldn't you have to be in the same scenario every time you said sit for the dog to know what you want it to do?
Is it the sound of a word they remember? If so, why do they still know what you want when you change the tone of voice?

I wonder how much they do understand Clever little rascals
