Nylabone would have paid chewie's vet visit, I know because I took my complaint way up the line. they offered. Thankfully she was okay. They STILL check on her to this day very month or so with an email. I'm guessing contamination would be serious enough- heh. I was one of the receivers of that Peanut butter debauchery years back. I was VERY sick, and some people died from it. I would have been able to be compensated had we jumped on the band wagon.
Any way-cheerios are very definitely not bad to give them as snacks. At all. They are loaded with good stuff- just for treats. I'd pick up the box of plain cheerios and put it up against one of the commercial snacks. You'd be surprised.
