Debarked dogs still try to bark, it's just a hoarse type of bark that isn't as loud. Some pups are just shy about being vocal until they get comfortable. Other pups don't bark at all! Pups have individual personalities which makes some vocal, and others not so much. I'm sure if you really wanted to know either way, you can ask your vet to check.
I remember when I first got Kaji, he would cry, whimper, and make this strange barking type sound that just sounded off. I thought for sure he was debarked. Not the case at all. Once he was comfortable, he barked at the doorbell once. He sometimes barks at knocks on the door, and doorbells, but mostly he is quiet. The bad side of that is that Kaji is more comfortable at screaming than he is at barking. It can be quiet annoying. It makes me think he's more monkey than dog.
