I use hemastats to pull hair from the ears. They will give you the grip you need on the hair so that it doesn't hurt the pup as much. Also, remember, not to pull large amounts of hair at one time. Only pull a few strands of hair per pull and use swift movements when extracting. None of my dogs ever have a problem with me pulling hair from their ears.
