I hope it is the teeth as well. Hard to say. I don't know why your vet would be against canned food....nothing wrong with that at all. Some people think kibble is better for the teeth, but that actually isn't totally true. Nutrition is important...give her what makes her happy!!
Has she had her urine checked? Maybe she could have a UTI...they can really make them feel awful.
She is lucky to be so loved.
