If you ever decide to go to home cooked route, you need to make sure they get enough nutrition from internal organs (that you wouldn't normally eat). As an alternative to home cooked, you could consider freeze dried or dehydrated meals (I.e. Primal, the honest Kitchen, Stella & Chewys). Most dogs LOVE it. And it's supposed to be better for them than kibble. And about the same price as home cooked.
