The only way to really get the tarter off would be a dental. Dogs can actually choke on anything even there food. Keep in mind that when feeding raw things at room temp germs start to grow and once the eat some and then go get water it gets the raw from there beard and from in their mouth in the water so you will need to keep in eye on that being a breeding ground for germs.
