I did the same thing. Adopted a little senior named prissie last year. The other babies had no issues bringing her in to the club. She came with a slew of health issues, the main one not being able to process any fat and food allergies. The previous owners that surrendered her couldn't take the time to take care of her, she came from some pretty hefty pocket owners and opted to get a younger pup, according to the yorkie rescue.
So with food we determined what she had issues with and slowly introduced different types of food. We ended up putting her on Hills Science Chicken flavor I/D Digestive Care and she has been doing wonderful. Being that she only has her canines and then some, I put the kirkland brand canned chicken which she digests very well, she couldnt eat any of the other brands. I make sure to rinse out several times. I blend her food, portions at a time and make like a runny paste and she loves the stuff. As treats for her I make little pumpkin treats, or she eats egg whites which she loves to death. Girl needs her protein, she had absolute no muscle on her and she literally was close to death.
We had started Prednisone with the Doc but nothing helped, she ended up doing fairly well on atopica and she seems like a normal dog. Love her to death and she sleeps with me every night, shes a cuddler unlike my other 2 who will walk around the bed all night, so they have their own sleep area
