About to adopt... In December we adopted a senior Yorkie. In spite of some serious medical issues initially, he bravely endured it all and is a wonderful, affectionate, obedient, funny little man who has lost almost a pound. He has carved his spot in the family with his two collie buddies.
I was perusing petfinder and found another little old man needing a home. He looks just like Spenser ( bow legged, very short, same coloration, chubby). I resisted a few days, but yesterday, when I realized he was in a shelter, not fostered , I went to meet him. He had just had 12 teeth removed! His shots were not yet up to date, so he couldn't meet Spenser. He is lymes positive. So, when he can be released, he will come home. I have some questions.
1) what should I feed him? I assume kibble is out. Spenser must have Royal Canine Veterinary SO because of his bladder surgery two months ago. I think Max must have wet, low calorie ( he is much chubbier than Spenser ever was.
2) will the lymes being treated with doxycycline avoid long term problems?
It's probably strange to add another senior, but I am a senior, too. We will spend our last year's together.
Thanks for any advice.
