Hi Debbie -
First, I am so sorry for the loss of your two sweet girls. It is so difficult
I don't live in Florida but would like to offer you a suggestion that helped me find my new little girl after losing the my little man (that was the love of my life for 15 years)
I didn't know where to start either but have a Giant Schnauzer that I bought as a show puppy 14 years ago and needed to finish her. Yes, I still have her and yes, she is a champion

and yes, my yorkie really belongs to her! lol!
Anyway, I decided to visit the local dog show to introduce myself to the local breeders in town. I actually ended up with one of the girls that was competing that day (she was 18 months old) long story but such a blessing! Anyway, I think it is a good place to meet responsible breeders that generally breed for quality, temperament and health. My experience only - but I do strongly believe it is a much better option then a website or god forbid a pet shop which most certainly acquires their precious ones from hideous puppy mills!
Oh also, you can look on the AKC website and find breeders in your state. I think some of them have to met a set of standards.
I really hope that helps.
Best of luck!
