I usually get my males first and then buy females to compliment him and his traits. Some people suggest getting the female first but I like getting the males first that way I know when the females are ready to breed later down the line the male will be ready too. As far as a mentor I would think that would be your breeder who ever you choose I mean who else knows their lines better than the actual breeder. They'll be able to tell you what bloodlines do best with there's what faults if any tend to pop up with their lines. Good luck hopefully you're as prepared as you seem because breeding isn't all rainbows and sunshine and puppy kisses a lot of times it goes very very wrong and quick thinking and instincts are the only difference between life and death.
