 Lost my Coco
On Friday March 10th 2017 my Coco lost her fight. She had a collapsing trachea which had been improperly diagnosed several years ago when she had an attack similar to what happened on Thursday. We walked her, it was 70 degrees outside and she always loved to walk and would get extremely excited. However, during the walk she had to stop and rest every 50 feet or so. By the time we got back (only went around the block) she was panting and breathing so hard that we sprayed her down and put a fan on her. I gave her a cough pill but nothing was slowing her breathing. After about 45 minutes we took her to the vet. He put her in the oxygen box, gave her steroids for swelling and a sedative. Nothing was helping so we took her to the ER Vet. By the time we got her there she was almost gone. Her tongue was purple and she was gasping for air. They took her back immediately and put her in an oxygen box. Started an IV and administered fluids and medicines to try to help her breath. The vet told me that her larynx was so swollen on one side that she only had a tiny opening and that her trachea was collapsing. She also told me that the surgery to fix her trachea would be around $6000 or they could do a tracheotomy but neither surgeries were very successful and she was too unstable to do surgery at that time anyway. So I left her there hoping and praying that they could do enough to pull her through. She passed away the next morning at 8am. I feel so guilty because I left her there to die without her family, I didn't take her in fast enough, she had this happen 4 years ago but they found nothing wrong with her (she was in the hospital 4 days and they did a battery of tests on her. I let her get too heavy. She is the second baby I've lost in 10 months. I am beyond heartbroken. Has anyone had this happen to them? I need to know that I didn't do anything wrong and if I did how to prevent it from happening to my youngest who also had a collapsing trachea. Thank you for listening to me. |
