I’m so sorry to hear about your baby. In June of last year Monroe was diagnosed with Pancreatitis from one specialist and Enteritis from another. They both also identified “chronic degenerative changes” in the kidneys, from their separate ultra-sounds.
I’m still learning what this all means but can let you know my experience so far.
For the pancreatitis/ enteritis, we’re treating her the same, regardless of the correct diagnosis. She is eating low-fat Royal Canin dry. She’s extremely picky too, so I have to mix in a bit of boiled chicken breast to get her to eat. I still sometimes have to handfeed her to get her started eating.
For the signs of kidney disease I haven’t completely decided how to proceed… we’ll do yearly blood work & urinalysis but I guess that won’t show anything until she’s lost somewhere around 66% of kidney function (which will hopefully be many, many years from now as she’ll just be 2 in April). So, we would have to do another ultrasound to see how the kidneys look. I will likely do this again this year to compare to last year.
She gets loose stools once or twice a month and I give her Metronidazole. I usually just have to give it for 24 hours and then she’s better. I don’t actually know if this is the way the specialist wanted us to use it and we’ll be going back to see the specialist next month for a follow-up. So far, we haven’t had anything like last year, where she was hospitalized for 4 nights, but occasionally loose stools and she’s thrown up a couple times (we have an anti-nausea and appetite stimulant on hand but I haven’t had to use those).
I wish I had some helpful advice but I’m still learning and will watch for more feedback on this thread!
