I think excessive barking is rude--Having said that, Piper is very rude when she is in backyard and sees anyone in neighbor's yard. Sometimes I fire a squirt gun and if I'm lucky, I hit the ground near her and that'll get her attention. If she doesn't quit barking, she has to go in house, even if I stay outside. It's a work-in-progress, to be sure. In most every situation Piper is very quiet; she doesn't respond to the many barking yard dogs on our walks and she is quiet when approached by strangers when shopping. If she does 'demand' barking in house, I go to another room and close door--a few seconds usually does--as she hates being ignored and/or 'left.' I was given this hint by one of our many highly knowledgeable and experienced members. Lovelovelove your little guy (just hope he doesn't grow into those perfect-perfect ears!!).
