No, it wasn't Revolution that was killing pets. Revolution is safe, and they make doses for smaller dogs under 5 pounds. There is a lot of controversy surrounding Trifexis, however. Maybe that's what you remember.
If you are in Florida, definitely ask your vet about heartworm preventative.
