Our new little rescue Yorkie has separation anxiety, but it is too early for us to get upset about it, but I have had many dogs, ran a collies Rescue for 12 years, and always used crate training. A crate sends our new little one into hysteria. It is unbelievable. Obviously, a crate is not the way to go for him. So we take him on walks, do obedience training several times a day, leave the room for increasing number of minutes. He will stay and rest in a Moses basket, strangely enough. So, that acts like his crate.
