Thanks we have been working on this with him since he was 8 months old and he's just over three now. He's been in behavior therapy is in therapy currently under the care of a science university which specializes in dog behavior and on meds and off meds. It's a work in progress. I don't regret getting him but I wish I wasn't so naïve in believing it couldn't happen to us just because it didn't happen to anyone else .. who knew it was happening, anyway! He has panic attacks etc. so...all good fun!

Crate training has helped me and my Emma does not poo/pee in her crate even at 8-10 hours. I do not feel that this is wrong to do because it means the dog is safe as well as items in the home.
I think it is very rare to find someone who thinks crating is wrong when it is well tolerated. It's supposed to be safe so I'm glad it works for you!

Both he and Audrey are yorkies, but he is definitely high strung and she's cool about everything. We will make progress I am sure, in fact we have made some already, but they are two precious little ones. I am retired so Spenser can adjust slowly and have only limited times without adults.

I'd try to determine the dog's reaction to the current owner's leaving the room. Etc. two things will determine how it works. Your tolerance and the dog's.

Good luck. 16 years is a long time.

Definitely dependent on the dog but how do you ensure that your puppy isn't prone to separation anxiety? I wish I knew what to check for and maybe I wouldn't have this issue or would have better prepped for it!

Love my boy, though - faults and all.
