Ahhhh I had exactly the same experience with my first Yorkie, 30 + years ago. He lived to be 17 1/2 years old and I cooked him a hamburger every day of his life. Purina puppy chow was the dried dog food we had and he did not much like it. I think differently about it though. I don't think it was the food, I think the Yorkies were not so inbred at that time and had much healthier genes.
I still miss my Bambi too, after all these years....sigh
