They always will have some elevation of their bile acids after surgery; but, they are certainly in much better shape having had the shunt repaired than not.
The surgeon I used and also the vet nutritionist said that most pups after liver shunt surgery do very well on a moderate protein diet. My Teddy Bear is on Hills' Ultra Z/D .. he also has IBD which is also common in LS pups.
