I have dreadlocks and Ive had them for a little over 5 years now, and they do not hurt me at all. I also dont have huge fat ones either tho, I have skinnier dreads. The big fat ones may pull on your hair more so I can see that being bothersome or hurting I've also seen people start to get what looks like bald spots because their hair is being separated so tight for so long when they get fat dreads,, so I just wanted to let you know that that statement is not always true. I love my dreads and I don't even think of getting rid of them ever. I fix up the hair that grows in up at the roots throughout the day twisting them up at random and I wake up in the morning and don't need to do my hair anymore LOL I'll throw on a hat or a bandana and call it it a day haha.. I used to have to spend at least a hour straightening or curling my hair everyday before i got dreads..its a big difference tho, you have to really want them to get them because as you know, you cannot just easily take them out your haor, you kind of need to really be committed to having them =]
